Do You Like Apples recently celebrated its first birthday! On February 15, 2019, we went live with our very first post. One year (and a couple weeks) later, it feels like a good time to do the State of Do You Like Apples address. Don’t worry -- I’ll do my best to keep it brief.
First of all, we want to thank all of you for subscribing and reading. It means so much to us that there is an audience for something we love to do so much. Sure, we would probably write about movies and give you our unsolicited recommendations regardless, but it’s awesome to see people respond so positively.
Why in the world do we do this?

For the last year, we have been writing about a few movies available on streaming services every single week, as well as adding streaming TV suggestions, mini-reviews of new movies, and more. Why do we spend so much time on this? Two reasons: One, we are just obsessed with movies (likely to an unhealthy degree). We can’t help but incessantly watch them, talk about them, write about them, read about them, and allow them to seep into our bloodstream. DYLA is an outlet for our collective passion.
And two, we wanted to create a place where movie-watchers like you could go to figure out what to watch. We really live in an amazing time, where you have an overwhelming amount of movies and TV shows available at the click of a button. I mean, it seems like there’s a new streaming service debuting every month now. DYLA began with the purpose to help you sift through the cluttered entertainment landscape to pick out what’s worth watching and engaging with. Your taste might not always line up with ours (it’s okay, really!), but we hope you get something out of what we’re doing here.
You can read our About page for more on this.
Future plans (and how you can help us get there)

What does the future hold for DYLA? To be honest, we don’t really know. It’s so much fun to create this newsletter every week, but we’d love to do even more. That could mean a podcast. It could mean multiple posts per week. It could mean we write, direct, produce, and star in our own movie. (Kidding.)
Basically, we’d love to continue growing this thing and devote more time to it. If you dig what we’re doing, you can help us do that in a number of ways.
