Between 1972 and 1979, Francis Ford Coppola went on one of the all-time heaters. With The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, and Apocalypse Now, Coppola delivered perhaps the best four-movie stretch ever for a filmmaker. Only some of our best directors can merge consistency and mastery to make four truly great movies consecutively.
Inspired by Coppola’s exceptional 1970s (and with his latest, Megalopolis, coming to theaters in a month), we are excited to announce our next podcast miniseries called “Four For Four.” In this four-part project, we’re discussing directors that made four consecutive great films and how these impressive streaks reflect the hallmarks of their signature style and themes.
And the first episode is already out! In part one, we discuss Joel and Ethan Coen’s idiosyncratic and wonderful first four movies, Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing, and Barton Fink. Listen and subscribe on Apple Podcasts and Spotify!
