Predicting The Oscar Noms w/ Do You Like Apples
Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. See how we stack up against the experts.
This is one of the most open fields I can remember and is making it increasingly difficult to predict. With each major awards player we are getting a consistent field of favorites, but inconsistent winners. Hinting at who most of the The Oscar nominees will be, but not much evidence of who the winners are probably going to be. Everything Everywhere All at Once wins at the Critics Choice Awards (the more legitimate voting body, to be fair), but not at the Golden Globes where The Banshees of Inisherin won when up against Everything Everywhere All at Once in the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Then you have the acting categories, a usual signifier of some trends, that is making things more convoluted. The supporting actor categories are some of the only locks with Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once. But it seems that Cate Blanchett (Tár) is going to beat out Michelle Yeoh (EEAAO) for Best Actress with her Critics Choice win. Best Actor is a field of favorites for performances in movies that are at best dark horses for winning Best Picture. Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Austin Butler (Elvis), and Brendan Fraser (The Whale) are the three favorites. Fraser won at the Critics Choice making him a favorite as of now, but if Colin Farrell or Austin Butler win could that mean The Banshees of Inisherin or Elvis is a dark horse Best Picture winner? Then we have Best Director where the two favorites are representing the top two favorites for Best Picture. Steven Spielberg for The Fabelmans and Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert for EEAAO. With Martin McDonagh being an Oscar favorite and a huge player for the screenplay categories in previous years, but never for Best Director. This could be his year to get a nomination (almost for sure) and maybe a sneaky win that could signify we really don’t know who is going to win Best Picture.
All that above is kind of irrelevant because I am here to only guess the NOMINEES. Wanted to give you an idea of my thought process when thinking about this and how much time I spend thinking about these things to my own detriment. Some big surprises could make that above run on paragraph moot and we will back here in March even more confused. Below will be our nominee predictions for all 4 major categories in order of who we think will win the award.
